Harm Diekman Killed In Car Collision At Parkersburg

Harm Diekman was killed Tuesday night in a two-car collision in Parkersburg on Primary 14. Mr. Diekman was on his way to a football game on the football field in Parkersburg when a car crashed into him broadside and he was killed instantly. He was in the car alone at the time of the crash.

In the car that crashed into the Diekman car were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Curl and two small children from Cedar Falls.

They were coming from the north and they crashed into the Diekman car as Diekman was turning across the highway to the football field north of Parkersburg. Mrs. Curl was very badly hurt and she was taken to a Cedar Falls hospital. The husband and children escaped with slight injuries.

Mr. Diekman was 58 years old. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Cebe Diekman, who resided for several years on farms in the vicinity of Wellsburg. His wife died four years ago. In late years he had been making his home with his son Clarence on the farm two miles south of Parkersburg in Pleasant Valley township. During the daytime he was employed by a veterinarian and feed barn in Parkersburg.

Surviving are three sons and one daughter. The sons are Raymond, Cedar Falls; Clarence, of Parkersburg; and Harvey, who has been at home. The daughter is Mrs. Dennis Kiewiet, Grundy Center.

Other surviving relatives are a twin brother, Dick from Hampton, and George from Aplington. Step-sisters are Mrs. Eggo Stoehr, South Dakota; Mrs. John Brower, Ackley; Mrs. Herman Harrenstein, Wellsburg. Full sisters are Mrs. Will Conradi, Dike, and Mrs. Fred Getting, Grundy Center. A half-brother, Fred Terfehn, died at Wellsburg a few months ago. Another half-brother, Henry Terfehn, died a few years ago, and a half-sister, Mrs. Claus Harrenstein, died several years ago.

Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at one o'clock at the house and at 1:30 at the Lutheran church in Parkersburg.
