Mrs. Lula Claassen Funeral on Friday; Lifelong Resident

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the home of her son Richard and later in the Second Christian Reformed church for Mrs. Lula Claassen, 72, lifelong resident of Wellsburg and Shiloh township.

Mrs. Claassen passed away at 9 a.m. Tuesday of last week in Ellsworth hospital at Iowa Falls of a stroke. She had been hospitalized 10 days prior to her death following a heart attack while staying with her daughter, Mrs. Glenn Hamilton.

Rev. John H. Olthoff came from Oskaloosa to officiate at Mrs. Claassen's funeral.

Casketbearers were Neil Hoekstra, Wendell Hoekstra, Gordon Tjaden, Thomas Hoekstra, John O. Tjaden and Woodrow Lindaman. Flower attendants were Miss Bertha Doyen and Mrs. Ben Peters. Music was provided by Mrs. Clarence Beecroft, accompanied by Mrs. Wilbur Knock.

Burial was in the Wellsburg Reformed church cemetery.

Obituary
Lula Akkerman was born Feb. 15, 1884, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Akkerman, in Shiloh township, where she was to spend her entire life both on the farm and in Wellsburg.

On March 18, 1903, she was united in marriage with Diedrich J. (Dick) Claassen, and the couple made their home in Wellsburg where he was employed at the Wellsburg Savings Bank, a position he held until the 1930's.

Mr. Claassen died in January, 1939. Much of the time since his passing Mrs. Claassen had made her home with her children, both here and at Iowa Falls.

The deceased was a member of the Second Christian Reformed church, and the Willing Workers Society.

Surviving are three sons, Virgil, Richard and Thomas, all of Wellsburg; one daughter, Mrs. Glenn Hamilton, Iowa Falls; and 10 grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters, Miss Tillie Akkerman, Mrs. Ben Hoekstra and Mrs. Otta Tjaden, all of Wellsburg; and one brother, Thomas Akkerman, of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
