W. A. Meyer Dead At 91; One Of Oldest Residents
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, October 6, at 2 p.m. at the home and later at the Second Christian Reformed church for W. A. Meyer. Interment was made in the Wellsburg Reformed church cemetery.
W. A. Meyer was born August 8, 1863, in Rochelle, Illinois, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Meyer. He was united in marriage to Gertie Geerdes, 22 years later on October 27. To this union 6 children were born, 4 sons and 2 daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Meyer were privileged to live together for 63 years.
All of their married life was spent in the Wellsburg vicinity. Part of that time the deceased was engaged in farming, part of the time in the automobile business, and later years in retirement.
Mr. Meyer took an active interest in the life of the church, serving as the first elder in the Second Christian Reformed church of Wellsburg. His exemplary Christian life may well serve as an inspiration to those who remain.
Mr. Meyer enjoyed good health and continued in remarkable strength until the last 2 years of his life. Then weakness and accumulated years began to take their toll. He slipped away in the early morning hours of Oct. 4.
Three children remain to mourn his passing: Mrs. Gertie Neessen, Mrs. Ella Nichols and Albert. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons in infancy, and George, who died at the age of 27 in 1924. Surviving also are eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
