Mrs. Chas. Etjen Died Monday

Mrs. Charles Etjen, a longtime resident of Colfax township, died Monday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lawrence J. Sheldon, near Eldora. Her health had failed gradually since the death of her husband last May. She was 85 years old. Death was due to old age and complications.

Mrs. Etjen was born in Eastfriesland, Germany. She came to this country in 1894 with her mother, two sisters and two brothers. They located on a farm in the northwest part of Grundy county. On February 2, 1896, she and Charles Etjen were married. All of their married life was spent on a farm in the vicinity of Wellsburg. Mr. and Mrs. Etjen observed their 61st wedding anniversary in February of last year. She was a long time member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and a member of the missionary board of the church.

Funeral Services Thursday
Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church with Rev. Slottag conducting the service. Burial will be by the side of her husband in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Mr. and Mrs. Etjen were the parents of seven children. Six of them are living. A daughter, Mrs. Harm Knock, preceded the parents in death. The surviving children are three sons and three daughters. The daughters are Mrs. Lawrence Sheldon, Eldora, Mrs. Fred Eilers and Mrs. John Uhlenhopp, Parkersburg. The sons are John from Parkersburg and Will and Lee from Wellsburg. There are 19 surviving grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Other surviving relatives are two sisters, Mrs. Christ Miller Sr., Wellsburg, and Mrs. Henry Evers, Comfrey, Minn.
