Wm. Stoehr, who had been failing in health for a long time, died at 11:30 Sunday night, May 13, 1923, from the infirmities attendant upon old age, being 77 years, 6 months and 4 days old at the time of his death. He had been about as usual, until late Sunday, at which time he began having trouble to breathe. The end came quickly.
Wilhelm Stoehr was born November 9, 1845, in Helsfelde, Ostfreisland, Germany. In 1868 he emigrated to this county. Living one year in Illinois, he came to Grundy county, Iowa, and lived on his farm in Colfax township till he moved to Wellsburg 17 years ago.
He was married to his first wife, Etje, born Brauer, in October, 1872. God blessed his married life with nine children, of whom two died at early age. Those still living are three sons, John, Eggo, and Cuno, and four daughters, Mrs. Bus Venenga, Mrs. John Schoon, Mrs. Henry Rust and Mrs. Albert Loots.
His first wife died May 3, 1895. He was re-married to Tetta Goudschaal, July 10, 1896. God blessed this marriage with five children, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Geo. Meyer--Ettie, Willie, Emma, Hannah and Minnie Stoehr.
The dear departed father was a faithful member of the Lutheran church until his death. Old age ended his life on May 13, 1923, after a long suffering, leaving in sorrow his beloved wife, four sons and eight daughters, two brothers, Eggo Stoehr, in Holland, Iowa, and Heinrich Stoehr, in Woden, and many other relatives and friends.
