Joe Weichers, 80, Died Wednesday In Nursing Home
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Dick D. Huisman home and later in the Wellsburg Reformed Church for Joe Weichers, 80, who died last Wednesday evening in the Rainsbarger Convalescent Home at Eldora.
The services were in charge of Rev. F. J. Langenberg of Grundy Center in the absence of Rev. Poppen. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Music for the funeral was furnished by JoAnn Ohling and Sheryl Lutterman, and Marcella Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. John Ohling and Bertha Doyen. Jerry Jurgens, Joe Jurgens, Dick P. Weichers, John P. Weichers, Conrad Weichers and John D. Weichers were pall bearers.
Joe Wiechers was born February 7, 1877 at Terre Haute, Indiana, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Weichers. He came to Grundy county with his family when he was three years old.
He worked as a farm laborer for many years in this area, and was caretaker of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church cemetery 10 years. He resided in Grundy Center 14 years, where he owned his home.
Mr. Weichers had been confined at the convalescent home since February 6, 1956. He succumbed at 7 p.m. last Wednesday.
Survivors include two brothers and a sister, Dick Weichers and Mrs. Rena Hoodjer, both of Wellsburg, and Fred Weichers, White, South Dakota, also many nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
