Funeral Tuesday At Local Church For Mrs. Rena Peters
Funeral services for Mrs. Rena Peters, 94, of Wellsburg, were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. Donald Brown and Rev. Daryl DeNeui officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Special music during the service was furnished by soloist Eldon Harms and organist Mrs. Eldon Harms. Mrs. Conrad Weichers and Mrs. William Meyer were flower attendants.
Casket bearers were Frank Meyeraan, Dick D. Huisman, Gratus Ross, Leland Luwe, Mervin Best and Harry Voss.
Mrs. Peters passed away at her home at 11:30 p.m. Saturday due to complications of her advanced age. She was 94 years, one month and six days at the time of her death.
She was born in Ostfriesland, Germany on November 7, 1875, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Voss (nee Etta Lohjne). She received her education in Germany.
In 1893, she and her family immigrated to America and settled on a farm near Aplington.
She was united in marriage to John Peters on February 19, 1908. Following their marriage they lived on a farm on the west edge of Wellsburg and in 1912 they moved to a farm in Pleasant Valley Township. This union was blessed with 3 sons and 1 daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on June 26, 1961, 5 sisters and 4 brothers and one grandchild.
Those who survive her are: 3 sons and 1 daughter: Jake Peters of Rippey; Henry Peters of Wellsburg; (Jeanette), Mrs. Noble DeNeui of Wellsburg; Edwin Peters of Wellsburg; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
