Funeral Services Held Friday For John J. Harms

Funeral services for John J. Harms were held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Donald Brown officiated at the services. Eldon Harms sang two selections. Eldon Gordon Junker was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Kenneth Adams and Mrs. Eldon Loots.

Pall bearers were Bernerd J. Harms, Ronald Harms, Vernon Meyeraan, Donald Heikens, Leslie Hoodjer, and Larry D. Everts. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

John J. Harms passed away early Wednesday morning, October 16, 1968, at his home in Wellsburg due to a heart attack. He reached the age of 66 years, 5 months, and 26 days.

He was born on April 20, 1902, on a farm in Shiloh Township, northeast of Wellsburg, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Harms (nee Charlotte Koch). He attended the rural schools in the area. On June 24, 1926, he was united in marriage to Miss Katie Hoodjer of Holland. This union was blessed with 9 children. Following their marriage they lived on a farm in Colfax Township after which they lived on farms in the Eldora, Ackley and Sheffield areas. In January of 1966 they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg.

He was a long time member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg having been confirmed in 1918.

Those who preceded him were: his parents, 1 brother and 1 sister infancy, and 4 grandchildren.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Katie, 4 daughters and 5 sons: (Deloris), Mrs. Orin Cunningham of Dumont; (Caroline), Mrs. Willie Kruse of Lone Rock; John Ervin Harms of Waverly; Duane Harms of Ossian; (Imogene), Mrs. Dale Furman of Bradford; Gene Harms of Baraboo, Wisconsin; Wendell Harms of Phoenix, Arizona; Roger Harms of Wellsburg; Sharon Harms of Wellsburg; 3 sisters and 3 brothers: I. J. Harms of Wellsburg; Will Harms of Eldora; Mrs. Minnie Olsen of Goldfield; George E. Harms of Holland; (Charlotte), Mrs. George Getting of Steamboat Rock; (Lydia), Mrs. Frank Meyeraan Sr. of Wellsburg and 16 grandchildren.
