Last Rites Sunday For Mrs. Cooley

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church at Morrison for Mrs. Elma Cooley. Burial was in the Washington township cemetery.

Mrs. Elma Cooley, 64, a long-time resident of Morrison, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Wical, in Grundy Center about 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon only a few hours after she had been brought home from the hospital at Iowa city. For the past two years Mrs. Cooley had suffered from cancer. She was taken to the hospital about seven weeks ago but with no improvement and little hope for her recovery.

Mrs. Cooley was born at Superior, Neb., April 28, 1886, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Starr. From Superior the family moved to Monroe in southwestern Wisconsin where the children grew to manhood and womanhood.

On March 23, 1911, Elma Starr was married to Alonzo Cooley at Orangeville, Illinois. Soon after their marriage the couple came to Morrison, Iowa, and lived there until 1920. For three years the family lived in Spokane, Wash., but returned to Morrison in 1923, and have resided there since. Mr. Cooley passed away Dec. 22, 1935.

Mother of 10 Children
Mrs. Cooley was the mother of ten surviving children. They are: Harry Cooley and Mrs. Miriam Reed, Morrison; Mrs. Clara Russell, Los Angeles; Logan Cooley, U.S. Navy, Cuba; Delmar Cooley, U.S. Marines in Korea; Mrs. Doris Nichols, Rice Lake, Wis.; Mrs. Zelda Minard, Waterloo; Mrs. Lula Prescott, Marshalltown, Donald, army in California; and Mrs. Wical.

Also surviving are two brothers, Grover and George Starr, Rice Lake, Wis.; four sisters, Mrs. Elsie Heffner, Pearl City, Ill.; Mrs. Stella Mays, Loretta, Wis.; Mrs. Dora Minert, Rockford, Illinois; Mrs. Effie Reed, Faulkton, South Dakota, and 27 grandchildren.

Relatives here for the Cooley funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Engelbach and Alice and Mrs. Dora Meinert, Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Elsie Heffner, Pearl City, Illinois, Mrs. Ole Jensen and Mrs. Walter Blaseing, Dakota, Ill., Mrs. Clifford Robe and Mrs. Delmar Cooley and Terry, Orangeville, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Joe Moore and Danny, Rice Lake, Wis., Logan Cooley, Cuba, Art Cooley, Freeport, Mrs. Juanita Norlruff and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Minard, Waterloo, Henry Halverson and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Prescott, Marshalltown.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cooley and baby arrived here Sunday evening from California. His wife will remain here as expects to be sent overseas as soon as he returns to California.
