Otto Harms, 67, Died Dec. 18

Otto Harms passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 18, 1977 at the Marshalltown Area Community Hospital following a lingering illness. He had been taken to the hospital in the afternoon for emergency treatment. He reached the age of 67 years, 2 months and 21 days.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 21, 1977 at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church northeast of Wellsburg. Rev. Clarence Alexander officiated at the services. Eldon Harms was soloist. Mrs. Frank Meyeraan Jr. was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. James DeNeui and Mrs. Alfred Krull. Pall bearers were Chris Koch, Alfred Harms, Marlin Harms, Alvin Harms, Lawrence Aalfs and Norman Harms. Burial was in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born on a farm in Shiloh Township, northeast of Wellsburg on September 27, 1910, the son of Harm and Mary (Buss) Harms. He received his education in the rural school in the area. The family moved to Wellsburg in 1938 to make their home.

Otto was baptized in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg on September 8, 1912. He continued to make his home in Wellsburg until March of 1977, at which time he entered the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 2 brothers, Paul and Ebe Harms; 4 sisters, (Martha), Mrs. Paul Frieling, (Gertie), Mrs. Gus Siefken; (Mary), Mrs. Frank Folkerts, and Dora in infancy.

Survivors include: 2 sisters and 2 brothers; (Hattie), Mrs. Henry Aalfs of Wellsburg; (Minnie), Mrs. Clarence Folkerts of Ramond, Minnesota; Edward H. Harms and Harold H. Harms of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
