Services Saturday For Wm. Koch, Sr.

Funeral services for William Koch, Sr. were held Saturday afternoon, May 25, at 1:00 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Clarence Alexander was officiating clergyman. Two solos were sung by Eldon Harms. Mrs. Eldon Harms was organist. Mrs. Harris Harrenstein and Mrs. Carl Heinrich were flower attendants. Pall bearers were Darrell Koch, Dallas Koch, Don Rouse, Harlyn Riekena, William Janssen and Rollin Primus. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Mr. Koch passed away early Wednesday morning, May 22, at the Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids due to complications of advanced age. He had been taken to the hospital late Monday evening, May 20th. He reached the age of 94 years, 4 months and 27 days.

He was born on a farm in Shiloh township northeast of Wellsburg, on Dec. 25, 1879, the son of William and Hermina (Mayland) Koch. He attended the rural school in the area. On February 1, 1905, he was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Giesking. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm in Colfax township northeast of Wellsburg. Mrs. Koch passed away in 1923. He moved to Wellsburg around 30 years ago. Since April 28, 1973, he made his home in Cedar Rapids with his daughter and son-in-law, Forrest and Elsie Lahue.

He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg.

Those preceding him were: his parents, his wife, two brothers, two sisters, one half-brother, one son, William Koch, Jr., one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Olthoff, one grandson and two great-grandchildren.

He leaves to mourn his passing: two daughters: Miss Charlotte Koch of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Forrest (Elsie) Lahue of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Mrs. Hermina Giesking, now confined to the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
