Funeral Services For Willie B. Etjen Were Held Tuesday

Funeral services for Willie B. Etjen were held on Tuesday, June 19 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church. Pastor Clarence Alexander was officiating clergyman. Mrs. Elwood Doyen was the soloist. Mrs. Frank Meyeraan Jr. was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. John Boekhoff Jr. and Mrs. Jack Deters. Pall bearers were Jack Deters, Herman DeVries, Don Simonson, Willie Giesking, Norman Harms and Ebe Finke. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Willie Bryan Etjen passed away Sunday morning, June 17, 1973 at the Eldora Memorial Hospital in Eldora due to complications of a lung condition. He had entered the hospital on May 25th for treatment. He reached the age of 66 years, 2 months and 1 day.

He was born on a farm in Colfax township, Grundy County, northeast of Wellsburg on April 16, 1907, the son of Charles and Jennie (Saathoff) Etjen. He attended the rural school in the area.

He was baptized in September of 1907 by the Rev. Carl Henrich at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg of which he was also a member.

Willie lived with his parents on the farm, and after the death of his parents he moved to Wellsburg in 1958.

Those who preceded him were: his parents, one sister (Kate), Mrs. Harm Knock; and one brother, John Etjen.

He leaves to mourn his passing: 3 sisters and 1 brother: Mrs. Rena Eilers of Parkersburg; (Tillie), Mrs. John Uhlenhopp of Parkersburg; Lee Etjen of Wellsburg; (Grace), Mrs. Lawrence Sheldon of Eldora, and many nieces and nephews.
