Peter Ascher Services Held

Peter Ascher of RR 1, Aplington, was born the son of Henry and Hattie Maas Ascher on June 23, 1914, in the Shiloh Township, Grundy County, near Wellsburg.

Peter grew up in the Wellsburg area, later moved to rural Morrison and the Grundy Center area. He then moved to Buck Grove in the 1940's. He enjoyed farming his entire life.

Peter served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. He was in the Pacific Theater. He was also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg and a member of the Aplington Amvets.

Peter became a resident of Maple Manor in Aplington on October 2 and was taken to the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Tuesday, November 19.

He passed away at 8 p.m. Sunday, November 24 in the Covenant Medical Center on Kimball Ave., Waterloo. He reached the age of 77 years, 5 months, and 1 day. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, August, John, Henry, and Harry Ascher and 4 sisters, Christina Riekena, Florence Finke, Hattie Ascher, and Mildred Purvis.

Pete is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 27 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wellsburg, with Rev. Richard Dowling officiating. Joyce Meyeraan was the organist and Arthur Finke sang "Amazing Grace". Casketbearers were Harley Ascher, Eldon Hauser, Arthur Finke, Melvin Vogt, Ron Kuhlman, and Harvey Peters. Burial was in the St. Paul's Cemetery in Wellsburg.

Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
