James E. Harms, 65, of rural Cresco passed away on May 29, 2006 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. Funeral services were held at Stvanger Lutheran Church in Ossian on June 3. Burial was in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wellsburg.

Jim was born on January 25, 1941 to Ibeling W. and Evelyn (Riekena) Harms. He attended country school and briefly Wellsburg school. He farmed with his father until his father's death in 1974. He continued with the registered and grade Holstein herd until 1997 and was well known in the industry. Jim married Beverly (Cordes) Zimmerman on October 25, 1975 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church in Wellsburg.

He is survived by his wife; five step-children; Bruce Zimmerman of Hubbard, Keith (Diane) Zimmerman of Evansdale, Roger (Vicki) Zimmerman of Charles City, Joyce Casey of Soddy Daisy, TN, and Jana Johnson of Woodstock, GA; 19 step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; eight siblings; Delah (Bill) Friedel, Eileen (Larry) Smith, Edna Williams, Clifford (Pam) Harms of Wellsburg, Gary (Meg) Harms of Wellsburg, Darrell (Charlotte) Harms, Darwin (Kathy) Harms, and Barbara Harms of Grundy Center; two aunts, Mary Stahl and Arlene Junker, both of Wellsburg; 20 nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law; seven uncles; three aunts; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
