Mrs. Jan Jansonius

Many Years a Resident of Community; Death Occurred March 19.

After an illness of but a few days, Mrs. Jan Jansonius of Ackley, Iowa, passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. R. U. Harken at Austinville, Iowa, on Tuesday evening March 19, 1935, at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 26 days. She was born October 21, 1855, at Balk, Province of West Friesland, Netherlands. At the age of 11 years she came with her parents to America, living first at Goshen, Indiana. On June 21, 1874, she was united in marriage to Jan Jansonius. Immediately after marriage the young couple moved to Ackley, Iowa, living on a farm three miles east and one-half mile south of Ackley. Their home was blessed with ten children. After retiring from active farming they moved to Ackley in 1917. One daughter, Mrs. George Peters, preceded her in death in 1904, one son Henry in 1910, and her husband in 1920. For a while she lived alone in her Ackley home, but when infirmities became too burdensome, she found a place of comfort and shelter with her children, especially with Mr. and Mrs. John Limburg at Ackley, and with Mr. and Mrs. R. U. Harken at Austinville.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon in the West Friesland Presbyterian church, the pastor, H. Johnson officiating. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Those remaining to mourn her departure are her children, Henrietta Ulfers at Arena, North Dakota; Fred Jansonius at Bismarck, N.D.; Bertha Roberts at Caldwell, Idaho; Ipana Harken at Austinville, Sarah Limburg and Ida Humke at Ackley; Kate Hesselink, at Holland, Michigan; and Arthur living on the old home place northeast of Ackley; 23 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, one elder sister, Sarah, at El Paso, Texas. One younger brother died March 8th, at Globe, Arizona. Many other relatives and friends.
