Hattie Terfehn, 95, of Fort Dodge, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Tompkins Memorial Health Center. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Wellsburg Reformed Church, Wellsburg. The visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at Wellsburg Reformed Church.

Hattie was born in rural Wellsburg on March 27, 1914, to Fred and Rieka (Neessen) Terfehn. She grew up and graduated from Wellsburg High School, then continued her education at UNI, graduating with a BA in education. She then attended the University of Iowa to obtain her master’s degree. She taught school in rural Grundy County, Oelwein, Marshalltown and Fort Dodge. She also was the math coordinator for many years in the Fort Dodge School District. She enjoyed traveling and traveled widely in the Americas and Europe. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, playing bridge and also the computer in her later years.

Hattie is survived by her nieces, Phyllis (C. Robert) White of Cedar Rapids and Lois Clauson of Omaha, Neb.; nephews, Arden (Janice) Terfehn of Austinville, Paul Terfehn of Ames and Ken (Ann) Terfehn of Cedar Rapids; and many other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Rieka; sister, Anna Ruter; brothers, Anton and Aeilt Terfehn; and her nephew, Frederick Terfehn.

Memorials may be directed to the Wellsburg Reformed Church.
