Mrs. Julius Heikens Dead

Mrs. Julius Heikens died at her home three miles west of Wellsburg on Wednesday, December 18th. For more than a year she had been afflicted with diabetes, which was the cause of her death.

Funeral services conducted by the local pastor, Rev. H. C. Bode, were held at the Reformed church two miles west of Wellsburg, and there was a very large attendance at the service. The pallbearers were John Rah, Ausbrand Janssen, Ben Primus, John Ertmoed, P. B. Riekena and Henry Schafer.

Mrs. Heikens' maiden name was Henrietta Meyer. She was born in Germany and came to this country when she was quite small. She resided in this county upwards of 50 years. She was married to Julius Heikens on Mar. 27th, 1884. The wedding took place in Grundy county and the Heikens family made their home continually on a farm in Shiloh township. There were twelve children born to this union. Three of the children died in infancy and a son, Julius, passed away ten years ago. The husband died on Nov. 23rd, 1928. He was also afflicted with diabetes. There are four surviving sons, John, Harry, Ebbo and Henry. The daughters are Mrs. Henry Nederhoff, Mrs. Gatus Wilts, Mrs. Arend Nordman and Mrs. William Wulf, all of whom are living in the vicinity of Wellsburg.
