Mary Ellen Johnson, 71, of Tama passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, August 18, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Ken Gehling as celebrant. Interment will be held Monday, August 18, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Shiloh Township Cemetery in Wellsburg. Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2014 from 2 - 5 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Mary was born on May 6, 1943, in Britt, Iowa, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Laffey) Pritchard. She graduated from Britt High School and received her BA from the University of Northern Iowa. Her first husband, Keith Sillman, preceded her in death and together they had five children. In 2004, she married Gerald Johnson at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Mary taught for twenty years at the Iowa Juvenile Home and Marshalltown Community College. Later she worked for Employment Options with Tama County and was a caseworker for Tama County Mental Health. Mary was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, P.E.O. Chapter DF, Tama Book Club, Tama-Toledo Country Club, bridge club, and State officer for C.E.A. which led her to travels in Europe. Mary enjoyed golf, playing cards and games. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband Gerald of Tama; her children, Erin (Gary) Bjornstad of Bloomington, MN, Molly (Bruce) Linde of Ft. Dodge, Anthony (Heidi) Sillman of Ackley, Anne (Josh) Sents of Gilbert; daughter-in-law, Jenni Sillman of Ames; step-children, Gerald (Shelley) Johnson Jr. of Ankeny, Julie (Eric) Nelson of Iowa City; seventeen grandchildren, Sarah (Curtis) Powers, Andrew Bjornstad, Lauren, Delaney, Emma and Julia Sillman, Sam and Ben Linde, Kylie and Levi Sillman, Kaleb, Greta, Rachel, Ruth and Rowan Sents, Jordan and Cole Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Rachel Powers; one brother, Bill (Vivian) Pritchard of Britt; one sister, Sally Pritchard (Dave Wilkie) of Shoreview, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband, Keith Sillman in 1988; one son, Chris Sillman in 2007; one sister, Jane Pritchard; and an infant sibling.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Iowa River Hospice.
