Arend H. Eckhoff Rites Monday at First Chr. Church

Arend H. Eckhoff of Steamboat Rock died at 11 p.m. Friday in the Eldora Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for three days.

Funeral services were held at 1:15 p.m. in the funeral chapel at Eldora and at 2 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church, Rev. Bernard Visscher in charge. Burial was in the cemetery adjacent the church.

Arend H. Eckhoff was born at Freeport, Ill., on Sept. 6, 1873, the son of Henry and Helena Eckhoff. He spent 19 years with his parents in Illinois, then moved to Grundy county. He spent most of the remainder of his life in and near Steamboat Rock, except for a few years when he lived with his family in Minnesota.

He was united in marriage to Hilka Flessner on February 10, 1896 at the Lincoln Center Church in Lincoln township.

Mr. Eckhoff was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Shiloh township.

He had been in failing health for the past few years. On the Tuesday prior to his death he entered the Eldora hospital, where he died Friday at the age of 84 years, one month and five days.

Survivors include the widow and five children, Henry of Steamboat Rock, Thomas of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Carl Krause of Des Moines, Mrs. Dallas Walters of Waterloo, and Ernest of Dayton, Ohio.

Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Will Casper of Clara City, Minn.; three brothers, Peter and Herman of Steamboat Rock and Theodore of Wilmar, Minn.; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Two infant children preceded him in death.
