Anton Lupkes Dies Of Heart Attack At Home Saturday

Funeral services for Anton Lupkes, 54, of Wellsburg, were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Colfax Center Presbyterian church with Rev. Gene Straatmeyer officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Lupkes died at 4:15 p.m., Saturday at his home 4 1/2 east of Wellsburg of a heart attack.

He was born May 11, 1913, on a farm in Colfax township the son of Mr. and Mrs. Meint Lupkes. His parents died during the flu epidemic of 1919 when he was 5 years old. He and a sister, Grace, made their home with the Bus Venenga family.

He attended rural schools in the area.

For about the last 30 years he worked for Eilert J. Meyer.

He is a veteran of World War II, having enlisted in the Army on July 9, 1942, at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. He served in Africa, Italy and France from August 21, 1943 to November 27, 1945. He was discharged from the service December 3, 1945 at Camp Grant, Ill.

Survivors include one brother, John Lupkes of Kesley; two sisters, Hattie, Mrs. Albert Dekker of Grundy Center, and Grace, Mrs. Ben Venenga of Grundy Center; and one foster brother, Menno Venenga of Wellsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pall bearers were Bernard, Darrell, Elton, Keith, Ronald and Norman Venenga.

The casket was taken to the church at noon Tuesday from the Engelkes Funeral Home at Grundy Center.
