Mrs. Harm J. Kruse Dies At Hospital

Mrs. Harm J. Kruse died at 11:30 Monday night at the Grundy hospital, where she had been a patient for 16 days. Death was due to advanced age and complications. She was 91 years old.

The body was taken to the Engelkes funeral home where funeral arrangements were made. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 1:30 Thursday. Services will be held at two o'clock at the Christian Reformed church at Lincoln Center. Rev. Martin Stegink will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the Colfax church cemetery.

Was Daughter of Former Colfax Center Minister
Mrs. Kruse was born in Milwaukee, Dec. 20, 1873. She was a daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Bernard VanderLas. She came to Grundy county with her parents in her early youth. Her father had accepted a call to become pastor of the Colfax Center church. Rev. VanderLas, next to Rev. J. E. Drake, served for the longest time as pastor of the Colfax church, and his large family grew up there.

On July 21, 1914, Susanna VanderLas and Harm J. Kruse were married. They began life together on a farm in Lincoln township, where they resided until 1942 when they moved to Grundy Center. Mr. Kruse died in 1954. She continued to reside in her home here with her daughter Gretta and her son Bert up to the time she was taken to the hospital.

Surviving are one daughter, Gretta, and four sons: John, Harry, Calvin and Bert. There are 9 surviving grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kruse came from a family of nine children. She is the last of the large family of three sons and six daughters to receive the final call.
