Rites Tuesday For P. J. Meyer

Peter J. Meyer, 84, died Friday evening, December 3 at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Colfax Center Presbyterian church with Rev. David Dupee officiating, assisted by Rev. E. H. Buschman. Burial was in the Colfax Center cemetery.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Peter J. Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Meyer (Helen Knock) was born January 19, 1887 near Wellsburg. He was married to Reka Boldt on January 19, 1910. Mr. and Mrs. Meyer lived on a farm near Wellsburg until 1943, when they moved to Holland, where the resided until 1953, at which time they moved to Grundy Center. Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by his wife on September 16, 1953.

He was a faithful member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Meyer has been in failing health since May of this year. He died at 11:27 p.m. on December 3, 1971 having attained the age of 84 years, 10 months and 14 days.

He was a loving and faithful husband and father and was devoted to his home and family.

Mr. Meyer is survived by three daughters and one son, Mrs. Grace Heronimus of Grundy Ctr., Mrs. Freda Paterni of Wellsburg, Mrs. Arlene Rodd of Des Moines and Duane of Marshalltown; also nine grandsons, 8 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Greta Jaspers of Wellsburg, Mrs. Tena Schulta of Grundy Center, Mrs. Minnie Dirks of Grundy Center, two brothers, Harm of Aplington, and Eilert of Grundy Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters and a brother.
