Dena Kiewiet Funeral Held

Mrs. Dena Kiewiet, Grundy Center, died at the Grundy County Memorial hospital Tuesday, January 18 at 10:05 p.m. having attained the age of 78 years, 9 months and 5 days.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. Rev. Jerry VanCurler officiated, assisted by Rev. E. H. Buschman. Mrs. Raymond Hinders played "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross" as musical interludes as well as other selected organ numbers.

Pallbearers were nephews of Mrs. Kiewiet, Jake Kiewiet and Marvin Tack from this area and four from the Buffalo Center community. Mrs. Joe Junker and Mrs. Benjamin Groote took care of the flowers. Ushers were John Paterni and Milf Meyer. Burial was in the Colfax Center church cemetery. The ladies of the church served lunch to relatives and friends following the committal service.

She was born March 24, 1898, on a farm near Fern, Grundy county, Iowa, the daughter of John and Elsie Oswald Sealman. On November 28, 1918, she was united in marriage to Richard K. Kiewiet in Waterloo, Iowa. After their marriage they farmed in Colfax township until 1949 when he retired and the family moved to Grundy Center. Mr. Kiewiet preceded his wife in death December 20, 1956. She had continued to live alone until she entered the hospital five days before her death. She was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Wilma) Wolthoff, Mrs. Dean (Joyce) Robertson of Grundy Center, Mrs. Frank (Marian) Luchtenburg, Cedar Falls, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Alice Kiewiet, RR6, Cedar Falls, 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, one brother, John Sealman, Grundy Center, four sisters, Mrs. Carl (Jennie) Olson of Reno, Nevada, Mrs. Jake (Bertha) Smit of Iowa Falls, Mrs. Cora Harrenstein, St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Harley (Annetta) Dothager of New Hampton, two half-brothers, Alvin Harrenstein, Grundy Center, and Edwin Harrenstein, Dike.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one son, Donald Kiewiet, and one brother. A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home took care of arrangements.
