Family Mourns Passing Of Gretta Jaspers

Funeral services for Gretta Jaspers were held on Tuesday, December 26, at 1:30 p.m. at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church near Holland. Rev. Jerry Van Curler officiated at the services.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hinders played organ and piano duet selections, "How Great Thou Art" and "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me." Mrs. Hinders also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude. Flower attendants were Mrs. Menno Venenga and Mrs. Milf Meyer.

Pall bearers were Elmer Schulta, Clarence Kruse, Duane Meyer, Marlyn Meyer, T. J. Heronimus, and Elwin Harms. Interment was made in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gretta Jaspers passed away around 10 o'clock Friday morning, December 22, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center due to complications of advanced age. Mrs. Jaspers had been a resident there for the past six years. She reached the age of 100 years and 7 days.

She was born on a farm in Colfax Township, rural Holland, on December 15, 1878, the daughter of John P. and Hilka (Knock) Meyer. She attended the rural school in the area. On April 28, 1897, she was united in marriage to Ben H. Jaspers. Following their marriage they lived on a farm southeast of Wellsburg, later moving to their farm in Colfax Township. In the fall of 1937, they retired and moved to Wellsburg to make their home. Mr. Jaspers passed away on June 29, 1960. In the fall of 1972 she was taken to the Long Term Care Unit at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital where she made her home.

Mrs. Jaspers was a charter member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, having joined by profession of faith on September 13, 1903.

Preceding her in death were: her parents, her husband, two brothers, George in infancy and Peter J. Meyer; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Kruse and Mrs. Rena Maas.

Survivors are: two brothers and two sisters, Eilert J. Meyer of Grundy Center; Mrs. Tena Schulta of Grundy Center; Harm J. Meyer of Aplington; Mrs. Minnie Dirks of Grundy Center and many other relatives and friends.
