Rites Held For Onieta Meyer

Funeral services for Mrs. John J. (Onieta) Meyer were held at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland, on Friday, March 1, 1985 with the Rev. Arthur Ames officiating.

At the services for Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Tom Simms sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "One Day At A Time." She was accompanied by Mrs. Larry Stahl, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Bernerd Harms, Eldon Kruger, Vernon Kruger, Bernerd H. Kruger Jr., George (Junior) Meyer and Verne Eberline. Herman Akkerman and John Seehusen served as ushers and Mrs. Vernice Schmidt and Mrs. Joseph Junker were in charge of floral arrangements.

Interment was held in the Colfax Center cemetery, rural Holland.

Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshment.

A memorial fund has been established.

Mrs. Meyer was born November 7, 1916 in Colfax township, Grundy County, IA, the daughter of Barney and Ora Meents Kruger. She grew up in Colfax township and attended country school there.

On January 14, 1948 Oneita was united in marriage to John J. Meyer at the Colfax Center Church parsonage. They farmed near Dike and moved to Holland on September 1, 1964 where they have since made their home. She passed away at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Tuesday evening, February 26 having reached the age of 68 years, 3 months and 19 days. She was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one infant brother. She is survived by her husband, John J. Meyer; one son, James Meyer, Cedar Falls; one daughter, Mrs. Mike (Marlene) Aalfs of Gladbrook; three brothers, John J. Kruger, Grundy Center; Klaas C. and Bernerd Kruger, both of Holland; two sisters, Mrs. Berdene Harms and Mrs. Claradean Harrenstein, both of Holland; four grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Meyer and Erin and Robyn Aalfs.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
