John Graves Services Held
John Edwin Graves passed away, Wednesday, July 8, 1992, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, having attained the age of 77 years, 7 month and 17 days.
John was born Novemger 21, 1914, in Colfax Township, Grundy County, IA, the son of George and Lena (Kruse) Graves. He grew up and was educated in Grundy County. John trucked until his marriage to Grace Hook on January 1, 1940, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland, IA. He then engaged in farming in Grundy County and in 1966 moved into Grundy Center. He continued to farm until his health prevented him from doing so.
John was an active member of Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland; serving over the years as Elder, Deacon, Trustee, and on the Building Committee. He enjoyed mechanics, camping with the grandchildren and wintering at his home in Sebring, FL for the past 22 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and one grandson, Todd Graves in 1984.
Survivors include his wife Grace; one son, Laurence and wife Sharon of rural Holland; one daughter, Ruth and husband Charles Thoren of Grundy Center; three grandchildren, Scott Graves of rural Grundy Center, Kimra Venenga of Byron, MN, and Molly Thoren of Wartburg College; and two great-grandchildren, Justin and Jennifer Graves.
Funeral services were held at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland, IA on Saturday, July 11, 1992, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Larry Hoop officiating.
Casketbearers were Verne Eberline, Jake Hemmen, Jake Heeren, Dean Harrenstein, Marvin Nederhoff and Dwayne Sents.
Interment was in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
