GRAVES, HOOK, JUNKER

Grace Luella (Hook) Graves, 87, of Grundy Center, passed away on May 22, at the Ackley Presbyterian Village. Funeral services were May 24 at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church or the Ackley Presbyterian Village.

Grace was born on June 26, 1915 in Colfax Township, Grundy County, the daughter of Lupke and Frauke (Junker) Hook. She moved to Aplington in 1926 and lived there until 1940. She graduated from Aplington High School in 1933. She then worked for several families as a hired girl. Grace was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland for over 68 years. She gave freely of herself and was an active member of the women's organization and taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She enjoyed her many friends and wintering at her home in Sebring, FL for over 30 years. On January 1, 1940, Grace was united in marriage to John Edwin Graves at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. She was active all her life helping her husband on their farm in Colfax Township where they lived until retiring to Grundy Center in 1966. She was a resident of the Ackley Presbyterian Village for the past 4 1/2 years.

Survivors include one son, Laurence and wife Sharon Graves of Holland, a daughter, Ruth and husband Charles Thoren of Grundy Center; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992; her parents; and a grandson, Todd Graves in 1984.
