Esther Mennenga, 80, of Wellsburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 1999 at the Eldora Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Eldora of heart failure.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Burial followed in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery in Wellsburg. Pastor Kevin Ver Hoeven officiated. A memorial fund has been established.

Pallbearers were Curtis Kruse, Harlyn Riekena, Charles Stief, Neil Okones, Dennis Meints and Doug Sietsema. Honorary pallbearers were Carroll Stahl, Ronald Fisher and Paul Primus.

Esther was born on April 8, 1919 on a farm in Pleasant Valley Township, Grundy County the daughter of George and Gertie (Haan) Sietsema, Sr. She attended elementary school in Pleasant Valley Township and Wellsburg High School. On March 12, 1937 she was united in marriage to Edward Mennenga at the First Christian Reformed Church parsonage in Wellsburg. He preceded her in death in April of 1989.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Ammann and husband Bob of Kwajalein, Marshall Islands; four grandchildren, Scott Ammann of Des Moines, Rob Ammann of Omaha, NE, Chad Mennenga of Arizona and Tracie Mennenga of California; two great-grandsons, Zachary Ammann and Caleb Mennenga; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Mennenga of Black Mountain, NC; two brothers, George Sietsema, Jr. and wife Frances and Herman Sietsema and wife Yvonne, all of Wellsburg; and one sister-in-law, Beulah Sietsema of Wellsburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Mennenga in 1989; son, Gary in 1998; her parents; three brothers, John, Edward and Harvey Sietsema; and two sisters, Jennie Fisher and Matilda OKones.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
