Peter J. Bakker, 86, of Wellsburg, died Monday, Dec. 16, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital-Long Term Care Unit, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 20 at the First Christian Reformed Church, rural Wellsburg. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Peter was born September 24, 1916, in rural Wellsburg, the son of John M. and Martha (Eekhoff) Bakker. He was educated in country school, Shiloh #9, and lived his entire life in the Wellsburg area where he farmed with his brother Edwin. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and was an avid sports fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and an infant sister; three brothers, Manley, Herman and Edwin; and a sister, Genevieve Powell.

Peter is survived by his brother, Lee R. (Thelma) of Hudsonville, MI; brother-in-law, Karol Powell of Rock Valley; sisters-in-law, Helen Bakker of Hubbard and Dorothy Bakker of Steamboat Rock; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or to Timothy Christian School.
