Henry John Vande Voort, 94, of Wellsburg, died February 8, at the Mayflower Home Health Care Center in Grinnell. Funeral services were February 11 at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church, rural Wellsburg. Burial followed in the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established with Dordt College in Sioux Center.
Henry was born on May 27, 1908, in Dodewaard, Netherlands, the son of Everard and Christina (Van Dorland) Vande Voort. The family came to the United States when he was 11 months old. He was united in marriage to Ella Korthuis on March 1, 1935. They farmed near Reasnor until 1947. In ensuing years, they farmed by Hayward, MN, Luverne, MN and Wellsburg. For the last couple months Henry resided at the Mayflower Home and Health Care Center in Grinnell.
Henry was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church where he served on the church council, as a Sunday School Teacher and in Men's Society. Henry served on Christian School Boards and sang in various quartets.
Survivors include five sons and their wives, Everett and Jeanette Vande Voort of Beaver Creek, MN, Henry L. and Ruth Vande Voort of New Sharon, George and Jan Vande Voort of Dalhart, TX, Paul and Bev Vande Voort of Jasper, MN and Philip and Dar Vande Voort of Eldora; two daughters, Mrs. Chris (Ken) Rindels of Laveen, AZ and Mrs. Ruth (Cal) Branderhorst of Oskaloosa; 28 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella on October 11, 2000; his parents; an infant grandson, James Vande Voort; five brothers, Jake, Arie, Gerrit, William and Everett; four sisters an infant Johanna, Marie Terpstra, Christina Willemson and Bertha Van Norden.
