Bernice V. Haupt, 85, of Wellsburg, died July 28 at Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services were July 31 at First Christian Reformed Church, rural Wellsburg. Burial followed in the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Bernice was born August 6, 1918, in rural Wellsburg, the daughter of Peter M. and Minnie (Ross) Bakker. She attended Pine Creek No. 9 rural country school. Bernice then attended and graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1935. On February 4, 1942, Bernice was united in marriage to Henry Haupt at the First Christian Reformed Church Parsonage. After their marriage, they farmed in rural Wellsburg for 37 years. In 1979, her husband Henry died. In 1985, Bernice moved to Wellsburg. For the last year and a half, Bernice made Arlington Place in Grundy Center her home.

Bernice was a lifelong member of First Christian Reformed Church in rural Wellsburg. She was a member of the Queen Esther Circle and the Timothy Sisters. Bernice enjoyed doing various types of needlework and reading. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her three daughters, Phyllis Altena and her husband John of Fremont, MI, Lois Diehl and her husband Charles of Eldora and Glenda Koch and her husband Dallas of Wellsburg; two sons, Wallace Haupt and his wife Evelyn and Ralph Haupt and his wife Ginny, all of Wellsburg; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Willis and his wife Eunice of Steamboat Rock; one sister, Annette Eekhoff of Kanawha; one brother-in-law, Oldig Haupt of Grundy Center; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her parents; one grandson, Kirk Haupt; one great-granddaughter, Sarah Diehl; and one sister, Lillian Haupt.
