Funeral Thursday For Siedo Heerkes

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Wellsburg Reformed church for Siedo Heerkes, 74, who died the previous Monday following a stroke in an Eldora convalescent home.

Rev. O. G. Poppen of Aplington was in charge of the service in the absence of his son, Rev. Geo. Poppen.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Irwin Abels and Mrs. Elmer Ruter. Mrs. Harold Lindaman was organist. Serving as flower attendants were Hattie Neessen and Mrs. Kenny Adams.

Casketbearers were Aise Rust, Gordon Junker, Kenny Adams, John Ohling, Anton Neessen and Odie Olthoff.

Burial was in the Reformed church cemetery.

Obituary
Siedo Heerkes was born Sept. 12, 1883, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Berhend Heerkes, in Rysum, Ostfriesland, Germany, where he spent the early part of his life.

He came to the United States with his parents in 1909, and for many years worked as a farm laborer before making his home in Wellsburg. He had been confined to the convalescent home the past two years.

The deceased was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed church, and was faithful in attending worship services as long as his health permitted him to do so.

Surviving are a brother and a sister in Germany, also a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
