Mrs. Mary Snittjer Dies Friday Night
Mrs. Mary Snittjer died suddenly Friday evening about 9:30 p.m. of a heart attack. News of her sudden death was received with deep regret by all who knew her. She reached the age of 82 years, 2 months and 27 days.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was in charge of services. Music was furnished by a men's quartet, Irwin Abels, Harold Lindaman, Richard Ross and Eugene Ruter. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist.
Pall bearers were Alfred Krull, David Taffinder, Ralph Huisman, Lester Huisman, George H. Geerdes and David Miller.
Flower attendants were Mrs. David Miller and Mrs. Alfred Krull. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Mrs. Mary Snittjer was born Marie Helena Badje to Mr. and Mrs. Claus Badje on Sept. 21, 1882 at Holland. She received her education in a rural school in Colfax township. In 1902 she was united in marriage to Herman Snittjer. The couple made their home on a farm near Holland. In 1912 they moved to Wellsburg where they spent the remainder of their married life.
Those who preceded her in death were her parents, her husband in 1948, one son in infancy, four brothers and three step-sisters and two step-brothers.
Those left to mourn her passing are Grace, Mrs. Ray Bachman of Eldora; Ray Snittjer of Steamboat Rock; Minnie, Mrs. Elvin Juhl of Reinbeck; Neva, Mrs. Earl Cockerham of Ackley; Herman of Steamboat Rock; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister Millie, Mrs. M. C. Phelps of Pomona, Calif.; one brother, John Badje Sr. of Buffalo Center, and a host of other relatives and friends.
