Henry A. Geerdes Dies Suddenly

Funeral services for Henry A. Geerdes are pending at the Doyen Funeral Home. He passed away at the Grundy Co. Memorial hospital Wednesday morning where he has been confined for complications following a stroke.

Mr. Geerdes is survived by sons, Arthur, Henry Dean, Clarence, George H., and a daughter Mrs. Arnold Arends, also one brother George A. Geerdes, Wellsburg and a sister, Mrs. Miner Haack of Webster City.

Henry A. Geerdes, Lifelong Resident, Buried Saturday

Henry A. Geerdes passed away at the Grundy County Memorial hospital early Wednesday morning due to complications of a stroke. He had been taken to the hospital on January 30th.

Mr. Geerdes was born April 6, 1887 on a farm in Shiloh township. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Argen Geerdes. He received his education in the rural school and attended the Grundy Center high school. He reached the age of 77 years, 10 months and four days.

On May 24, 1910, he was married to Miss Dena Neessen in Wellsburg. They have made their home in Wellsburg all of their married life. This union was blessed with four sons and one daughter. He was engaged in the lumber business for many years, and was a salesman for several firms during the latter years.

Mr. and Mrs. Geerdes were privileged to have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in May of 1960, with their family and friends.

Those who preceded him in death were his parents, and one brother Claus Geerdes.

Those who mourn his passing are his wife, Dena; four sons, Arthur, Henry Dean, and Clarence Geerdes all of Wellsburg; George H. Geerdes of Grundy Center; one daughter, Mrs. Arnold Arends of Wellsburg; one brother, George A. Geerdes of Wellsburg; one sister, Gertrude, Mrs. Minert Haack of Webster City; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Feb. 13 at 1:15 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and later at the Reformed Church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was in charge of services. Music was furnished by Mrs. Woodrow Lindaman and Mrs. Elmer Ruter. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist. Mrs. Herman DeVries and Mrs. Tyle Huisman were flower attendants. Sherwood Snittjer, Ray Snittjer, Herman DeVries, Jakie G. Lindaman, Harold Weichers and Thomas Claassen were pall bearers.

Interment was made in the Reformed church cemetery.
