Mrs. Schmidt Dies Suddenly Sunday, Funeral Wednes.

Mrs. Leonard Schmidt, 59, died suddenly early Sunday morning of a heart attack at the home of a sister, Mrs. Joe Cervetti, in Steamboat Rock.

The Schmidts had gone to the Cervetti residence to visit Saturday evening, where she became ill and died.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church with Rev. Gideon Wolbrink in charge. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Special music for the service included a duet by Mrs. Woodrow Lindaman and Mrs. Elmer Ruter. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist.

Flower attendants were Mrs. Kenneth Bunger and Mrs. Clarence Freese.

Casket bearers were Kenneth Bunger, Alvin Blythe, John Olthoff, John E. Ruter, Clarence Freese and Harley Freese.

Mrs. Schmidt was born Maria Faulka Maas, on March 11, 1908, on a farm in Colfax township in Grundy County, northeast of Wellsburg. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Maas (nee Sara Olthoff). She attended the rural school in the area.

On March 1, 1926 she was united in marriage to Leonard Schmidt. Following their marriage they began farming in Melrose township, southeast of Wellsburg. This union was blessed with one daughter, Ivis, Mrs. Wendell Anders. They were privileged to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on March 1, 1951 with their family and friends.

She was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church, having made confession of her faith in Jesus Christ on Dec. 5, 1937.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents, one grandson and one sister in infancy.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, one daughter, Ivis, Mrs. Wendell Anders of Aplington, one grandson, Charles Anders, one granddaughter, Connie Anders; six sisters and one brother, (Florence), Mrs. John O. Tjaden of Waterloo; Henry Maas of Wellsburg; (Jennie) Mrs. Lee Etjen of Wellsburg; Mrs. Mabel Weichers of Wellsburg; (Lillian) Mrs. Joe Cervetti of Steamboat Rock; (Wyone) Mrs. Willard Ross of Wellsburg; (Harriet) Mrs. John Burns of Steamboat Rock and a host of other relatives and friends.
