Rites Friday For Ben H. Behrends At W'burg Church

Funeral services for Ben H. Behrends were held at 1:15 p.m. Friday at the Doyen Funeral Home, and at 1:30 p.m. at the Reformed Church at Wellsburg.

The Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman. Music was furnished by Mrs. Douglas Geerdes and Mrs. Robert Valentine who sang two duet numbers accompanied by Miss Marcella Neessen, organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Jerry J. Lutterman and Mrs. Vernon Stahl.

Pall bearers were Vernon Stahl, Basil Snyder, Alvin Blythe, Lambert A. Bunger, Kenny Bunger, and August Haupt.

Interment was made in the Reformed Church cemetery.

Mr. Behrends passed away very suddenly on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 28, at his home north of Wellsburg due to a heart attack. He reached the age of 82 years, 3 months and 24 days.

He was born in Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Behrends on July 4, 1887. His mother passed away shortly afterward. He and his father came to the United States when he was a year and a half old. They settled in Michigan. Sometime later they moved to Iowa and lived on several farms in Shiloh Township. He had made his home with his sister on the present farmstead south of Wellsburg for many years and was engaged in the painting trade until his retirement.

He was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having made confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on May 28, 1922.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother.

Those left to mourn his passing are 1 half-sister and 2 half-brothers. They are Will Behrends of Lennox, South Dakota, Henry Behrends of Stout, Miss Sadie Behrends of Wellsburg and a number of nieces and nephews.
