Funeral Friday At Local Church For Mrs. Fred Gross
Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Gross were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Reformed Church. The Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman.
Mrs. Robert Valentine and Mrs. Douglas Geerdes sang two duet numbers accompanied by Miss Marcella Neessen at the organ. Flower attendants were Mrs. Cornelia Lindaman and Mrs. Henry Nederhoff.
Pall bearers were Frederick Thorne, Wayne Thorne, Clifford Thorne, Elmer Thorne, Albert Thorne, and Alvin Thorne. Interment was made in the Reformed Church cemetery.
Mrs. Gross passed away very suddenly Tuesday evening, January 6, at her home in Wellsburg due to a stroke. She reached the age of 69 years, 9 months and 18 days.
She was born Caroline Thorne on March 18, 1900 at Buffalo Center, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Sophie (Nortmeyer) Thorne. She attended the rural school near Herman, Minnesota. The family later moved to Grundy Center and settled near Wellsburg. On May 29, 1925 she was united in marriage to Fred Gross in Wellsburg by the Rev. William Landsiedel. This union was blessed with 2 daughters. Following their marriage they lived in Wellsburg where they made their home all of their married life. They were privileged to celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary on May 29, 1950 at the Wellsburg Reformed Church with their family and friends.
She was a long time member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having made confession of her faith in Jesus Christ on Jan. 12, 1919.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son in infancy, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Josephine Finke of Wellsburg; (Katherine), Mrs. Harold Lindaman of Wellsburg; 3 grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Ernestine Kvittem of Rochester, Minn.
