Funeral Wed. For Gertie Sietsema

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertie Sietsema were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Reformed Church with Rev. Gideon Wolbrink officiating. Mrs. Douglas Geerdes and Mrs. Robert Valentine sang two duet numbers accompanied by Allan Ruter, organist. Mrs. Jessie Eiten and Mrs. Cordelia Vahlsing were flower attendants. Pall bearers were Carroll Stahl, Ronald Fisher, Douglas Sietsema, Charles Stief, Robert Ammann and Lee Okones. Interment was made in the Reformed Church cemetery.

Mrs. Gertie Sietsema passed away around 7 o'clock Sunday evening, October 24, at the Presbyterian Home in Ackley due to complications following a stroke on October 10th. She had entered the Presbyterian Home on October 7th. She reached the age of 86 years, 8 months and 23 days.

She was born in Pilsum, Ostfriesland, Germany on February 1, 1885, the daughter of John and Jennie (Tefeiel) Haan. In May of 1893 the family came to America and settled in Wellsburg. On February 23, 1904, she was united in marriage to George Sietsema. Following their marriage they moved to the Sietsema farm place northeast of Wellsburg, in Pleasant Valley Township. This union was blessed with 5 sons and 3 daughters. They retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg on Feb. 1, 1941. Mr. Sietsema passed away December 29, 1970.

They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Feb. 23, 1954 with their family and friends.

Mrs. Sietsema was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having made confession of her faith in Jesus Christ on November 23, 1952.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, 2 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. John Sietsema.

Those left to mourn her passing are: 3 daughters and 5 sons: John of Wellsburg; (Jennie), Mrs. Arend Fischer of Steamboat Rock; (Matilda), Mrs. Neil Okones, Sr. of Wellsburg; Edward of Wellsburg; Herman of Wellsburg; (Esther), Mrs. Edward Mennenga of Steamboat Rock; George of Wellsburg; Harvey of West Des Moines; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Minnie Hook of Wellsburg and Mrs. Ida Harms of Aplington.
