Services Held For Mrs. Reika Terfehn

Funeral services for Mrs. Reika Terfehn, 93, were held on Monday afternoon, Dec. 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink officiated at the services. Mrs. Douglas Geerdes and Mrs. Robert Valentine sang two duet numbers accompanied by Miss Marcella Neessen, organist. Flower attendants were Miss Alice Ruter and Miss Luella Beving. Pall bearers were Robert White, Frederick Terfehn, Arden Terfehn, Paul Terfehn, Kenneth Terfehn and Anton Neessen.

Mrs. Terfehn passed away at 12:05 Thursday afternoon, Dec. 2nd, at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center due to complications of advanced age. She had been a resident of the home since September 19, 1968.

She was born on a farm in Colfax township, Grundy county, northeast of Wellsburg on Feb. 17, 1878, the daughter of Anton L. and Hauke (Schafer) Neessen. She attended the rural school in the area. On October 16, 1901 she was united in marriage to Fred Terfehn at the home of her parents. Following their marriage they lived on a farm in Colfax township for one year and then moved to a farm on the east edge of Wellsburg. In 1949 they retired and moved to Wellsburg. They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary on October 16, 1951 with their family and friends. Mr. Terfehn passed away on May 19, 1955.

She was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church, having made confession of her faith in Jesus Christ on October 13, 1912. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid of the church as long as her health permitted. Those who preceded her were her parents, husband, 3 sisters, 1 brother and a sister and brother in infancy.

She leaves to mourn her passing: 2 daughters and 2 sons, (Anna), Mrs. Fred Ruter of Wellsburg; Anton Terfehn of Grundy Center; Aeilt Terfehn of Wellsburg; Miss Hattie Terfehn of Ft. Dodge; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
