Rites Friday for Mrs. Vina Haack
Mrs. Vina Haack passed away around 9:00 Tuesday morning, September 24, 1974, at the Grundy County Memorial hospital long term care center in Grundy Center due to complications of advanced age. She had been a patient there since the 29th of March 1973 and reached the age of 75 years, 6 months and 19 days.
She was born Vina Rindean Kalkwarf in Eastfriesland Germany on March 5, 1899, the daughter of Reint and Bertha (Mamminga) Kalkwarf. When Vina was a year old the family migrated to America and settled in the Stout area. She attended the rural school in the area. On January 9, 1918, she was united in marriage to Richard F. Schmidt. Following their marriage they lived in Stout and in 1924 the family moved to Wellsburg to make their home. Her husband passed away May 18, 1946. In 1952, she was married to Wessel Haack and they made their home in Wellsburg. Mr. Haack passed away December 17, 1962.
She was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church of Wellsburg having joined by confession of faith on November 6, 1962.
Mrs. Haack was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, her second husband, 1 sister, (Reka), Mrs. Harm Kaput and one grandson Timothy Schmidt.
Those left to mourn her passing are: 4 daughters and 2 sons from her marriage to Richard Schmidt: (Louise), Mrs. Donald Ross of Wellsburg; William R. Schmidt of Grundy Center; (Betty), Mrs. Floyd Senning of Evansville, Indiana; (Nadine), Mrs. Guy Railsback of Whittier, Calif.; (Elaine E.), Mrs. Kenneth Lindaman of Hubbard; Richard K. Schmidt of Iowa City; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters and 3 brothers: Mrs. Flora Alter, Parkersburg; Charles Kalkwarf, Parkersburg; Henry Kalkwarf, Allison; Reinhard Kalkwarf, Dike; (Dena), Mrs. John Weibrand, Dike; (Fannie), Mrs. George Behrends, Dike and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon, Sept. 27, 1974 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman. Mrs. Woodrow Lindaman and Mrs. Elmer Ruter sang two duet numbers accompanied by Marcella Neessen, organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Lawrence Bausman and Mrs. Florence Lindaman. Pall bearers were: Ronald Ross, David Senning, Jim Hulne, Gene Engelkes, Gregory Lindaman and Todd Lindaman. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
