Funeral Held Here Monday For Anna Ruter
Mrs. Anna Ruter passed away around 9:30 Friday morning, February 10, 1978, at the Hallmar Care Center in Cedar Rapids due to cancer, having reached the age of 76 years and 6 days.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 13, 1978 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman. Mrs. W.D. Murray and Mrs. Edwin Behrends sang two duet numbers. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. John Boekhoff Jr. and Miss Sadie Behrends. Pall bearers were Arden Terfehn, Paul Terfehn, Kenneth Terfehn, Frederick Terfehn, Eugene Ruter, and Leland Heinrich. Burial was in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ruter was born on a farm in Colfax township, northeast of Wellsburg, on February 4, 1902, the daughter of Fred and Reika (Neessen) Terfehn. She received her schooling in the Wellsburg public school. On January 17, 1929, she was united in marriage to Fred Ruter at the Wellsburg Reformed Church parsonage by the Rev. William Landsiedel. Following their marriage they lived on a farm southwest of Wellsburg. This union was blessed with one daughter. They lived on several farms in the area before retiring and moving to Wellsburg on March 1, 1948.
Mrs. Ruter was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having become a member by confession of faith on May 28, 1922, and was a charter member of the Ladies' guild of the church. She was church organist for 17 years and a Sunday School and Bible School teacher for many years.
Preceding her in death were: her parents, her husband, who passed away on January 3, 1977 and a brother, Anton Terfehn.
Those left to mourn her passing are: a daughter, Phyllis, Mrs. C. Robert White of Cedar Rapids; 2 grandchildren, Gary White of Ames and Amy White at home; 1 brother, Aielt Terfehn of Wellsburg; one sister, Miss Hattie Terfehn of Ft. Dodge and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service for Mrs. Ruter was held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Kenwood Park United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
