Mrs. Huisman Is Buried At Cemetery Here

Mrs. Minnie Huisman passed away very suddenly on Friday morning, June 9, 1978, at her home due to an apparent heart attack. She reached the age of 65 years, 7 months and 4 days.

She was born Minnie DeVries, on November 5, 1912, on a farm in Melrose township south of Wellsburg, the daughter of Ubbie and Nellie (Janssen) DeVries. She attended the rural school in the area. On April 9, 1936, she was united in marriage to Albert Huisman at the Reformed Church in Parkersburg. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm in German Township, north of Wellsburg. This union was blessed with one daughter Marcella and one son Norman.

In March of 1967, they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home. Minnie diligently used her talent of sewing and touched many lives with her services.

Mrs. Huisman was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church of Wellsburg and was active in various church organizations and held many offices in the church.

Preceding her in death were: her parents and one sister, (Katie), Mrs. George Seehusen.

She leaves to mourn her passing: her husband, a daughter, (Marcella), Mrs. Thomas Flessner, Jr. of Cedar Falls; a son, Norman Huisman of Wellsburg; 4 grandsons, John Thomas Flessner, Brent Albert Flessner, Eric Ray Huisman, Andrew Dale Huisman; 3 sisters and 3 brothers: Mrs. Henry K. (Tena) Meester of Dike; Eike DeVries of Grundy Center; Mrs. James (Anna) Meester of Parkersburg; Arthur DeVries of Parkersburg; Willard DeVries of Holland; Mrs. Clarence (Elvena) Walterman of Parkersburg and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 12, 1978 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Dr. John O. Kilmer and Rev. Gideon Wolbrink were officiating clergymen. Two selections were sung by the Gospeliers, Jim Ridder, William Aalderks, Marvin Aalderks, and Merle Miller accompanied by Mrs. Gordon Pruisner. Marcella Neessen was organist. Mrs. Tom Flessner, Sr. and Mrs. Raymond Newell were flower attendants. Pall bearers were Donald Huisman, Alan Huisman, Dallas Bunger, Roger Seehusen, Al Meester, and Eldon DeVries. Interment was made in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
