Wellsburg Couple Killed In Car-Truck Accident

Tom and Neola Flessner were taken from this life very suddenly on Friday afternoon, August 31, near Kellogg, due to injuries suffered in a car-truck accident, which occurred around 1 o'clock.

Thomas Frederick Flessner was born in Wellsburg on June 21, 1911, the son of John and Hattie (Beving) Flessner. He graduated from the Wellsburg High School with the Class of 1928. On January 26, 1934, he was united in marriage to Neola Haack. They lived in Wellsburg following their marriage. This union was blessed with a son, Thomas J. and a daughter, Nola Kay.

In 1962 they moved to Tucson, Arizona, where they made their home for four years. They then came back to Iowa to make their home. For the past 10 years he worked for Iowa Radiant Electric Heat in Wellsburg.

Neola Orlene Flessner was born in Wellsburg on April 25, 1914, the daughter of Wessel and Martha (Meyer) Haack. She graduated from the Wellsburg High School with the Class of 1933. For the past eight years, she worked for the Dodger Manufacturing Company in Eldora.

Mr. and Mrs. Flessner were long time members of the Wellsburg Reformed Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents and preceding Mrs. Flessner were her parents.

Those left to mourn their passing are: a son, Thomas J. Flessner of Cedar Falls; a daughter, (Nola Kay), Mrs. Eugene Meester of Grundy Center; 4 grandchildren, John Thomas Flessner, Brent Flessner, Dale Meester and Dawn Meester, Mrs. Flessner is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Buskovik of Rock Island, Illinois and Mrs. Harriett Jaspers of Cedar Falls.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September 3, 1979 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Clergymen were Rev. Gideon Wolbrink, Rev. Edward Jurgens of Hampton, Rev. William Rosenberg of Cedar Falls and Rev. Calvin Vanderwerf of Grundy Center. Mrs. Mayo Tjaden and Mrs. Douglas Geerdes were flower attendants. Music was given by a men's quartet, Relative Sounds, Ted Gerdes, Norman Gerdes, Ken DeBerg and Robert Tapper, who sang A Capella. Marcella Neessen was organist. Pall bearers for Mrs. Flessner were Mayo Tjaden, Jakie G. Lindaman, Harold O. Fischer, Norman Huisman, Albert Huisman and Henry J. Meester. Pall bearers for Mr. Flessner were Harm Aukes, Clarence Geerdes, Mark Geerdes, Raymond Beving, Claus Janssen and Don Jerolaman. Interment was made in the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
