Funeral Services For Elsie Lowe Are Held Here
Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Lowe were held on Monday, April 13 at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg.
Rev. John H. Elenbaas officiated at the services. Mrs. Ivan Slifer and Mrs. Harold Okones sang two duet numbers accompanied by Mrs. LuRay Neessen, organist.
Pall bearers were Duane Greany, Robert H. Renken, Harold O. Fischer, Eugene Huisman, Lester Huisman, and Charles Lee Huisman.
Burial was at the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery.
Mrs. Lowe passed away early Thursday morning, April 9, at the Pharr Nursing Home in Pharr, Texas, due to complications of advanced age. She reached the age of 95 years, 11 months and three days. She had been a resident of the nursing home since August 1980.
She was born on a farm in German Township, north of Wellsburg on May 6, 1885, the daughter of John and Matilda (Schultz) Huisman and attended the rural school in the area.
In 1906 she was united in marriage to John H. Luitjens. They made their home in the Wellsburg area following their marriage. Mr. Luitjens passed away October 23, 1923.
Later she was married to Dea Lowe and they made their home in Waterloo. Mr. Lowe passed away March 6, 1955. In 1966 she moved to Weslaco, Texas to make her home.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, both of her husbands, two sons, Delbert and Wendo Luitjens.
Survivors include: three sons, Cecil Luitjens of Davis City, Iowa; Merle Luitjens of Edinburg, Texas; Dale Luitjens of Weslaco, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Grace Fischer of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
