Family Mourns The Death Of Edward Harms
Edward H. Harms passed away Monday evening, April 5, at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center following a lingering illness. He had been taken there on Saturday, April 3rd. He reached the age of 74 years, one month and nine days.
Funeral services were held for Mr. Harms on Thursday, April 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Pastor Roger Huitink officiated.
Richard Schafer, soloist, sang two selections. Marcella Neessen was organist. Flower ladies were Mrs. Don Geerdes and Mrs. Junior Ascher.
Pallbearers were Lawrence Aalfs, Harm Aalfs, Chris Koch, LeRoy Harms, Donald Nederhoff and Bill Winger.
The interment service was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He was born on a farm northeast of Wellsburg on February 26, 1908, the son of Harm and Mary (Buss) Harms, and attended the rural schools in the area.
On January 19, 1937, he was married to Tillie Nederhoff at the Wellsburg Reformed Church parsonage by the Rev. William Landsiedel. Following their marriage they lived on a farm west of Wellsburg for nine years and then in 1949 moved to Wellsburg to make their home. This union was blessed with a daughter, Mary and a son, Curtis.
He was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having joined by confession of faith on September 26, 1948.
Edward was a custodian for the Wellsburg Community School for 18 years before retiring in 1973.
Preceding him in death were: his parents; his son, Curtis Harms on January 23, 1979; four brothers, Paul, Ebe, Otto, and Harold Harms; four sisters (Martha) Mrs. Paul Frieling, (Gertie) Mrs. Gus Siefken, (Mary) Mrs. Frank Folkerts, and Dora in infancy.
Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Tillie; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Lonnie L. Phillips of Wellsburg; his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Conchita Harms of Wellsburg; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, (Hattie) Mrs. Henry Aalfs, Wellsburg, (Minnie) Mrs. Clarence Folkerts of Raymond, Minnesota and many other relatives and friends.
