Herman Stahl, Retired Area Farmer, Dies

Funeral services for Herman H. Stahl were conducted on Tuesday, February 1, 1983 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church.

Pastor Roger Huitink officiated at the services. Two selections were sung by a ladies duet, Mrs. W. Dale Murray and Mrs. Edwin Behrends. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Elwin Harms and Mrs. Douglas Geerdes.

Pallbearers were Donald Stahl, Calvin Stahl, Carroll Stahl, Norman Nederhoff, Clarence Paterni, and Edward R. Harms. The interment service was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery.

Arrangements were in charge of Doyen Funeral Home.

Herman H. Stahl passed away very suddenly Saturday morning, January 29, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, due to a massive heart attack suffered earlier at his home in Wellsburg. He reached the age of 69 years, 4 months and 15 days.

He was born Herman Harold Stahl, on a farm near Holland, on September 14, 1913, the son of Jurgen and Harmka (Harms) Stahl. He received his education at the Colfax Center Country School.

On December 6, 1934, he was married to Grace Bunger at the Wellsburg Reformed Church Parsonage by the Rev. William Landsiedel. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm east of Wellsburg. On December 9, 1976 they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home.

Herman was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having joined by confession of faith on December 5, 1937. He served on the church consistory for several years and was an active member of the Men's Brotherhood.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a half-brother, John Stahl, and a sister, Tena, Mrs. John Paterni.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Grace; a son Marvin and his wife Anna Mae of Wellsburg; a daughter, Doris and her husband, Roger Swenson of Jewell; eight grandchildren, Donald, Judy, Rodney and Darwin Stahl; James, Bryan, Kathy and Eric Swenson; one half-brother, Harm Stahl of Grundy Center; two sisters and two brothers, Bernard Stahl of Wellsburg; Mrs. Alice Bartling of Hackensack, MN; Edwin Stahl of Wellsburg; (Mabel) Mrs. Coert C. Nederhoff of Wellsburg; and many other relatives and friends.
