Last Rites For Harris Peters Held Saturday
Funeral services for Harris J. Peters were held on Saturday, January 28 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Pastor Roger Huitink officiated at the services.
Mrs. W. Dale Murray and Mrs. Edwin Behrends sang two duet numbers accompanied by Miss Marcella Neessen who also played the prelude and postlude.
Mrs. Robert Valentine and Mrs. Grace Bettenga were flower attendants.
Pall bearers were Charles Juel, Floyd Luiken, Troy Anderson, Kenneth Kramer, Harvin Meyer, and Larry Meyer. Honorary pall bearers were Robert Valentine, Benjamin Hook, John Olthoff, Lester Mennen, Elmer Fritzel, and Kenneth Cordes.
The interment service was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery.
Mr. Peters passed away early Thursday morning, January 26 at his home in Wellsburg due to an apparent heart attack, having reached the age of 61 years, 11 months and 19 days.
He was born on February 7, 1922, on a farm in Shiloh Township, east of Wellsburg, the son of Jacob and Martha (Ibling) Peters.
He attended the Wellsburg Public School and graduated with the class of 1939.
On July 20, 1945, he was married to Viola Meyer at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. Following their marriage they lived on a farm east of Wellsburg. Later they moved to a farm northwest of Wellsburg and then to a farm north of Buck Grove. In 1974 they moved to Wellsburg to make their home. This union was blessed with a son Jay and a daughter Marilyn.
Harris was a long time member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having made profession of faith on October 20, 1946, and was also baptized at that time.
He farmed all of his life and also worked for the Aplington Sales Barn in Aplington.
Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Viola; a son, Jay and his wife, Julie of Prairie Village, Kansas; a daughter, Marilyn and her husband, Rick Robinson of Burlington; three grandchildren, Patrick and Laura Robinson and Jennifer Peters; his mother, Mrs. Martha Peters of Wellsburg; and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were: his father, Jacob Peters, and a sister, Nedra (Mrs. Darrell) Koch.
The Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
