Family Mourns The Passing Of Lenus Paterni
Lenus Paterni passed away Sunday afternoon, November 2, at the Hospice Unit of the Covenant Medical Center - Schoitz Hospital in Waterloo following a lengthy illness. He had been a patient there since October 12th. He reached the age of 72 years, 11 months and 20 days.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Pastor Roger Huitink officiated at the services.
Alfred Eiten sang two selections. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist and accompanist.
Mrs. John H. Krull and Mrs. John Everts were flower attendants.
Casket bearers were Lawrence Paterni, Royce Paterni, Richard Sicard, Perry Meyer, Thomas Rodd and Darrell Heronimus.
The interment service was held at the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery.
Mr. Paterni was born on a farm southeast of Wellsburg on November 12, 1913, the son of John and Malena (Wolters) Paterni, and received his education in the rural school in the area.
On December 2, 1937, he was married to Freda Meyer at the parsonage of the Wellsburg Reformed Church by the Rev. William Landsiedel. Following their marriage they began farming east of Wellsburg. After retiring from the farm he worked for Mid-Equipment Corporation in Grundy Center for 10 years. They moved to Wellsburg in 1973.
Lenus was a long-time member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church, having made confession of faith on December 3, 1939.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a grandson, Jeffery Paterni, who passed away September 14, 1986, one sister, Hattie, seven brothers, Henry, Remmer, Otto, John, George, Richard, and Sam, and three sisters in infancy.
Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Freda; two sons, Larry Paterni of Sioux City; Stanley Paterni of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Henrietta Hoodjer of Wellsburg; Mrs. Jennie Rieken of Ackley; Herman Paterni of Grundy Center; Jake Paterni of Wellsburg, and many other relatives and friends.
The Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
