Rites Held For Helen Ohling

Mrs. Helen Ohling, 89, of Wellsburg, passed away on Monday, August 21, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at the Wellsburg Reformed Church on Wednesday, August 23, at 10 a.m. The Rev. John Frey officiated.

Marcella Neessen accompanied the congregational hymns and played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Clarence Murra, Duane Murra, Myron Koper, Edward Schoolman, Edward Harms and Roger Nederhoff.

The ushers were Harry Duhn and Dale Murray. Mrs. Frances Harms and Mrs. Wilma Ross were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery.

Helen Ohling was born April 6, 1900, on a farm in Hardin county. She was the daughter of Andrew and Afke Jaspers Murra. Helen attended the Wellsburg school system while growing up on a farm just west of Wellsburg.

On February 21, 1923, Helen was united in marriage to Jannes Ohling at the home of her parents, with Rev. Landsidel officiating. They farmed southeast of Wellsburg for 25 years, retiring in 1948, and moving to Wellsburg. Jannes passed away December 26, 1965.

Helen became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital on January 5, 1989, and lived there until the time of her death.

She was one of the longest living members of the Wellsburg Reformed Church, and a member of the Ladies Guild for all of that time.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Mrs. Fannie Ruter, Mrs. Mae Kuper and Mrs. Kate Haupt; three brothers, Abraham, George and Alle Murra; and one infant sister.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Carrie Nederhoff, of Wellsburg.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
