Tena L. Paterni, 87, of Wellsburg, died May 23 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo. Funeral services were May 27 at Wellsburg Reformed Church, Wellsburg. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Wellsburg Reformed Church.

Tena was born June 14, 1915, in Pleasant Valley Township, rural Grundy County, the daughter of Thomas K. and Ann (Peters) Meester. Tena attended rural country school and she attended Pleasant Valley Reformed Church near her farm home. On October 4, 1940, Tena was united in marriage to Sam Paterni at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, rural Holland. Together they made their home on a farm about 10 miles south of Wellsburg. They farmed for many years, and after retiring, they moved to their home in Wellsburg. Her husband died February 6, 1986. After suffering a stroke, Tena went to live at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit. Tena was a member of Wellsburg Reformed Church. She enjoyed sewing.

Survivors include seven sisters-in-law, Jeanett Meester of Grundy Center, Esther Meester of Holland, Mavis Meester of Parkersburg, Ruth Paterni of Wellsburg, Freda Paterni of Ackley, Carrie Paterni of Aplington, and Annie Paterni of Grundy Center; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Etta Renken and Anna Murra; five brothers, Henry K. Meester, John K. Meester, Herman J. Meester, James C. Meester and Johnannes Meester.
